Field Trips
Academic field trips vary from year to year and class to class. Parents will be notified of upcoming class trips.
Field trips are funded by the LAUSD Cultural Arts Passport (CAP) program. Teachers must reserve their field trips before the school year begins.
Some Palm field trips, past and present:
- Students in Instrumental Music perform at several off-campus concerts.
- Art students routinely visit the Getty Center in Brentwood and have visited The Broad museum (2022) and the California African American Museum.
- Students in the Theatre Arts and Stage Crew electives visited the Getty Villa (Fall 2024).
- Eight grade English students visited the Museum of Tolerance (Spring 2024).
- Students have visited the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum (2024).
- Students have visited Craft Contemporary (Spring 2024).
- Students in the BSAP program have taken field trips to see OURstory the Black History Musical at the Alex Theater and for a tour of SoFi Stadium and the Kinsey African American Art & History Collection (2022-2023).
- 6th grade students visited the Holocaust Museum LA (Spring 2023).
- Students in the Video Production elective, and seventh and eighth grade English students have toured the production facilities and sound stages at Sony Studios (Spring 2024).
- Students in the Theatre Arts elective have gone to dress rehearsals of productions at the Hamilton High School Academy of Music and Performing Arts (Fall 2023).
- Eighth grade students may visit colleges or universities most recently Los Angeles Trade-Technical College (Spring 2023).
- Students in the Modern Media and Communications Magnet have visited the Ballona Wetlands to gain a better understanding of environmental sustainability and restoration (2022).
- Some sixth grade students have gone to the UCLA Institute for Planets and Exoplanets (iPLEX).
- Science students have gone to UCLA in conjunction with DNA Day.
- P.E. students have participated in the Run 4 Fun racing festival.
- Seventh grade English students have gone to see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga.
- Seventh grade students have collected toys and taken a field trip to deliver them during the Toy Drive.
- Leadership students and students of Mr. Flores have visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Leadership Center.
- Leadership students have visited Los Angeles City Hall.
- Teachers may get grants for special field trips to museums, fairs, historic site, etc.
2024 Sony Pictures Studio Field Trip
Seventh and eighth grade students from Mr. Flores' English classes and Mrs. Clark's Video Production classes toured Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City.
2024 La Brea Tar Pits Field Trip
A field trip to the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum was funded by the Cultural Arts Program and organized by Ms. Apenyo.
The group included students from the Modern Media and Communications Magnet, honors students, regular education students, and students with disabilities.
2024 Craft Contemporary Field Trip
In February, 2024, students took a field trip to Craft Contemporary (formerly the Craft and Folk Art museum).
The trip was funded by the Cultural Arts Program and organized by Ms. Apenyo.
2023 Academy of Music Field Trip
In October 2023, students in the Theatre Arts elective went to a dress rehearsals of FOOLS, a play by Neil Simon, at the Hamilton High School Academy of Music and Performing Arts.
