Tips for the First Day of School
• The Fall semester starts at 8:00am on Thursday, August 14, 2025 with a special bell schedule and a long homeroom period.
• Use caution when dropping off students. Never double park. You are welcome to use the carpool lane, or you can drop students off near school and let them walk the rest of the way. Please respect our neighbors who live adjacent to school.
• Students don't need their P.E. clothes on the first day of school. They should bring their planner and something to write with.
• Remind students that if they bring a smartphone or smartwatch, it must be turned completely off at all times on campus. A pouch for the device will be provided. Parents must never phone or text their child during school hours.
• If a student has questions or isn't sure where to go, they can ask any adult. Adults wearing bright vests will be easy to spot.
• If new students don't want to wait in the Cafeteria line, they can bring their own lunch.
• Most students have their schedules settled, but sometimes the counselors have to make changes because a class has fewer-than-expected or more-than-expected students. The teachers know that a few students may have their schedule adjusted during the first week or two, and they make sure that nobody is left behind in class.
• Parents who need help accessing the Parent Portal and Schoology should contact Ms. Kim-Marie Johnson-Roussell, our Parent Community Representative (see palmsms.lausd.org/kjohnson-roussell).
