Meet the Teacher
Hello!
I'm an educator, born and raised in Los Angeles, with roots in Mexico and Guatemala. I've always been passionate about learning, and over the years I've had the privilege of teaching, leading programs, creating curriculum, training educators, and working with students of all ages—from LA to DC, rural China to London, Jerusalem, Bermuda, Mexico City, and beyond.
I earned my BA from American University in DC, where I studied the intersection of religion, government, and education. Later, I completed my MA in Education at Pepperdine, along with credentials in Secondary History, Secondary Spanish, BCLAD, and coursework in Elementary Education. I went on to earn my doctorate in Educational Leadership at USC, focusing on teacher education in multicultural settings. I'm currently an adjunct faculty member in Curriculum and Pedagogy at USC's Rossier School of Education. I have worked off and on in LAUSD for nearly 20 years. Along the way, I've been honored to receive some meaningful recognition, including a Congressional Award for Excellence in Student Teaching and a UK-based award for innovative youth work. More recently, I completed a diploma in Psychological First Aid for Migrants, Refugees, and Displaced Persons.
One of my greatest joys is teaching Spanish. It's more than just a language—it's a bridge to culture, connection, and identity. With my own Latina background, I love helping students tap into the richness of the Spanish-speaking world and feel empowered to express themselves in new ways. At the heart of my teaching philosophy is the belief that students should lead their own learning. When their voices, stories, and experiences are centered, the classroom becomes a space where everyone grows together and works toward a more just and equitable future.
I live with my partner and proudly raise our beautiful children in the urban jungle of Los Angeles.
Conocer a la profesora
¡Hola!
