Spanish
About 40% of Los Angeles County residents speak Spanish. Would you like to be among them?
Everyone who lives in Los Angeles hears Spanish spoken and sees Spanish signs.
Spanish is spoken in Spain, Mexico, Central and South America, the United States, and in other countries.
Our Spanish courses are taken by students in the Palms Spanish World Language Immersion program, and to other students with an interest in learning Spanish.
Spanish 1
In the Spanish 1 elective at Palms, you can begin learning the four basic Spanish communication skills:
- Speaking
- Listening
- Reading
- Writing
This elective is not recommended if Spanish is your native or primary language.
Spanish 2
This elective is for students who have completed Spanish 1 with a grade of C or better in a previous school year. Students will build on their previous Spanish skills.
This elective is not recommended if Spanish is your native or primary language.
Spanish 3
This elective is for students who have completed Spanish 2 with a grade of C or better in a previous school year. Students will continue building on their previous Spanish skills.
This elective is not recommended if Spanish is your native or primary language.
High School and Beyond
At least 1 year of a foreign language class is a requirement to graduate from high school.
To be eligible for state colleges and universities, you must take at least 2 years of the same language, with 3 recommended for University for California admission.
If you take Spanish 1, you earn 1 year of foreign language credit ahead of high school.
If you take Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, you earn 2 years of foreign language credit ahead of high school.
If you take Spanish 1, Spanish 2, and Spanish 3, you earn 3 years of foreign language credit ahead of high school.
