Magnet Applications

The CHOICES application is used to apply to the Magnet Program. Applications are available at LAUSD schools and Los Angeles Public Libraries, or you can apply online at apply.lausd.net.

Applications must be submitted to the Office of Student Integration Services by the deadline.

Late applicants will be placed on a waiting list, which applies to that particular school year. You must reapply for the following year. Late applications are first-come, first-served.

You can submit late applications to as many programs as you like; it will not affect any on-time application. Apply using the Parent Portal or at echoices.lausd.net.

Parents are advised not to put any school on their Magnet application that they don't want their child to attend, because LAUSD may accept your child into any choice you list. If your only choice is Palms, list only Palms on your Magnet application.

It's OK to submit a Magnet application as well as applications for the School for Advanced Studies and the Spanish World Language Immersion Program. The applications do not conflict with each other.

If your child's home middle school is Palms (see Attendance Area), you do not need to submit a Magnet application, since you are automatically eligible to attend Palms.

For 2025-2026, Palms has about 95 openings for the Modern Media & Communications Magnet, and 145 openings for the Gifted Magnet. The number changes from year to year.

October 1, 2024: Choices brochure is released and on-time applications open
November 15, 2024: Choices on-time application deadline
February 3, 2025: Choices late applications open
February 10, 2025: Eligibility/Ineligibility notifications for Gifted and SAS programs sent
March 10, 2025: Selected/Waitlist notifications sent
April 11, 2025: Accept/Decline deadline for selected students
