2026-2027 High-Dose Tutoring

Palms offers after-school High-Dose Tutoring (HDT) to any qualifying student who has experienced learning loss or is underperforming. Tutoring will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:27pm to 4:13pm, September 2026 to April 2027. The schedule is subject to change. Participating students must commit to attending all three days each week throughout the school year.

Who Qualifies?

Tutoring for English Language Arts is available to students who meet any of several qualifications, including:

  • i-Ready Reading: One Grade Level Below or more
  • Report Card grade of D or F in an English course
  • Teacher Recommendation
  • Smarter Balanced Assessments: Standard Nearly Met or Standard Not Met

Tutoring for Mathematics is available to students who meet any of several qualifications, including:

  • i-Ready Math: One Grade Level Below or more
  • Report Card grade of D or F in a Math course
  • A-G Early Warning Indicators, Graduation Progress
  • Teacher Recommendation
  • Smarter Balanced Assessments: Standard Nearly Met or Standard Not Met
Other possibly qualifying factors:
  • English Learners
  • Students with Disabilities
  • Foster Youth
  • Homeless Students
  • Reclassified

Enroll by Wednesday, August 19, 2026

If you are interested in High-Dose Tutoring for your child, please fill out the interest form. Then, to enroll your student, complete the High Dose Permission Form (English or Spanish) and the Beyond the Bell Tutoring Application (English or Spanish).

Bus Transportation

LAUSD will provide bus transportation for students in the HDT program. Students should be at the bus by 4:45pm. The bus will drop off your student at your home. To enroll, fill out the Tutoring Bus Transportation Form (English or Spanish).

Step Up Tutoring

Palms students can get free tutoring at home from Step Up Tutoring. You pick the times that work for your schedule and attend two 45-minute sessions per week, with the same tutor.

Sixth graders are eligible for tutoring in Math or English Language Arts tutoring.

Seventh and eighth graders are eligible for English Language Arts tutoring.

Los Angeles Libraries

Free homework help is available, over the Internet, from the Los Angeles Public Library, the Los Angeles County Library, and from local libraries.

Team Prime Time Homework Space

For students in the Team Prime Time after-school program, a supervised space is provided to work on homework. Students can do homework for as much of the afternoon as they want. Most students spend one hour on homework and the rest of the time on other activities.

Students can ask for help as they work, but tutoring is not part of the program.
