PTSA
Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)
PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation. Without the necessary volunteers, Palms hasn't had a PTSA since the 2021-2022 school year.
In the past, the Palms PTSA collected dues, supported the state and national PTA, and sponsored campus programs, in particular the annual Reflections Art Contest and end-of-year Reflections Art show. In some years, the PTSA supplied food baskets for needy families, bought shoes, school supplies, and backpacks for students, sponsored student eye exams, and bought supplies for the Nursing Office. Palms PTSA members received membership perks.
With contributions from Palms, the California State PTA funded music scholarships, supported student dental and vision clinics, and supported a medical clinic to provide checkups, immunizations, and hearing tests for students and their siblings. With contributions from Palms, the National PTA lobbied legislators and testified on federal legislation affecting children and youth.
Could the PTSA return?
We don't currently have a PTSA because we don't have volunteers to run it. We'd need to have a PTSA President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Monthly PTSA meetings would be combined with the meetings of Friends of Palms.
If a team of parents is interested in bringing back the Palms PTSA, contact Friends of Palms.
