Environmental Science Club
The Environmental Science Club meets weekly after-school from 3:15pm to 4:15pm, developing sustainability projects at Palms.
2025-2026: Know Before You Throw
In the 2025-2026 school year, the club members developed and implemented a composting project called Know Before You Throw, teaching other Palms students how to determine what goes in the recycle bin, what goes in the composting bin, and what goes in the trash bin.
The project won the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power's Heroes for Zero contest in June 2026, with an award of $25,000 to be used by the club for further sustainability projects.

The project, and another project by Lu Lipmen called Effects of AI, are finalists in the Magenta House Expo contest, with winners to be announced in Fall 2026.
