Career Day
On the annual Career Day in January, Palms parents and community members give short talks to Palms students about their chosen careers.
The professions discussed change each year. Past speakers have included medical professionals, attorneys, a TV director, educators, technology workers, photographers, a race car driver, a midwife, a floral designer, an investor, a flight attendant, a machinist, various entrepreneurs, and much more.
Sign-ups for Career Day are in December each year.
Speakers usually speak twice, to two different classes, after first meeting in the auditorium to receive instructions. Students from Leadership lead presenters to the Period 3 and Period 4 classes where they will speak.
Presentations are typically 15 to 20 minutes, leaving time for questions. Presentations can be simply a talk, or they can include multimedia and/or props.

Our first Career Day was during the COVID pandemic, so it was done over Zoom.
Employees of the Getty Center, ranging from a conservator to the groundskeeper, spoke to Palms students about their jobs at the Getty, and answered questions.
