Modern Media and Communications Magnet
The Palms Middle School Modern Media and Communications Magnet, offered since the 2020-2021 school year, is one of two magnet schools on the Palms campus.
The Modern Media and Communications program uses project-based learning and collaboration to help students build proficiency in a wide range of communication and media skills.
The program offers exciting electives related to today's careers and ties in with core classes in history, English, science, and math.
The Palms Modern Media and Communications Magnet is the only Media and Communications Magnet School on the west side of Los Angeles, and one of only four for grades 6-8 within LAUSD.

Sixth grade students take the Creative Expression elective and learn to blog.
Meetings and Tours
You can learn about the Palms Gifted/High Ability Magnet by attending Zoom meetings or taking tours.
"Meet the Magnets" and/or "Magnet Information Meetings" are often held in October.

The Palms Modern Media and Communications Magnet is building a real and relevant foundation for success in the communications-based careers of the 21st century, from film production and broadcasting, to journalism, law, and business.
Career Technical Education
The Palms Modern Media and Communications Magnet It is an LAUSD Career Technical Education (CTE) program. The CTE program provides students with "industry-linked programs to reach their career goals, achieve a high-quality lifestyle, be competitive in the global marketplace, and sustain California's economic dominance."
Hamilton High School has a video production CTE program as well, and Palms Video Production students can continue their video production learning into high school. Hamilton is also building a pathway with community colleges.
Magnet Previews, Fall 2024
Magnet Previews, to be held in Fall 2024, are for families that are considering Palms Middle School for their child for the 2025-2026 school year. Parents and guardians are invited to attend, and they may bring their child with them.
Each event will start with a 30-minute information session about the school’s various programs. Then, families will tour the campus and visit select classrooms to see teachers and students in action.
For 2020-2021 school year, the Modern Media and Communications Magnet had openings for 165 students.
