Jazz Band
Jazz Band 2016-2017
Jazz Band is an after-school class where students perform Jazz music from around the world, learn how to solo, and perform in events.
Instruments include saxophone (alto, tenor, baritone), trombone, trumpet, clarinet, flute, piano, drums, bass and electric guitar.
All grades are welcome.
Practice Schedule
Practices are on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:00pm, and occasionally during lunch, in Room 172.
Performances
Jazz Band performs various times throughout the year, including the annual concerts below:
- Dia de los Muertos show (in October)
- Black History Month Show (in February)
- Chamber Music Concert (in March)
- Instrumental Spring Concert (in May)
One year, Jazz Band played at the Roxy Theater with Herbie Hancock!

Who Can Be in Jazz Band?
Only advanced players are selected for the 25 spots.
Auditions for Jazz Band are held in September (see details below). Students will audition with a piece of jazz music, which they can get ahead of time. Homeroom announcements will tell students when to pick up the music and return for the audition.

Audition Schedule 2024-2025
Students who want to be in Jazz Band must play a jazz band instrument.
Auditions are Tuesday, September 3 through Friday, September 6, 2024, at break or lunch in Room 172:
If you can read music, pick up the audition music from Ms. Jones from Monday, August 26 to Friday, August 30, 2024.
Guitar players: We have amps, but you must bring your own guitar for the audition. You can leave it in Ms. Jones' office on the morning of your audition.
